In this guide, we explore the best practices for GST calculation explained for Indian businesses. Whether you are a retailer, a freelancer, or a small manufacturer, understanding how to add or remove GST from your pricing is crucial for compliance.

How GST Works

GST (Goods and Services Tax) in India is usually levied at 5%, 12%, 18%, or 28%.

Adding GST

If your product costs ₹1,000 and the GST rate is 18%, you simply multiply 1000 by 0.18 to get the tax amount (₹180). Your total invoice will be ₹1,180.

Removing GST (Reverse Calculation)

If you have a total amount of ₹1,180 and want to find the base price, the formula is: Base Price = Total Amount / (1 + GST Rate) Example: 1180 / 1.18 = 1000.
